Strate Line getting the job done in tricky situations: The balancing act

Strate Line Crane on the St. Joe River

As we’ve mentioned before, the team at Strate Line Crane and Rigging is no stranger to working in tricky situations. We know that when there’s a job to do, we have to get it done for our clients, so we find the safest, most effective way to work around any obstacles, regardless if they’re natural or man-made.

So when we were approached to help work on the St. Maries Creosote cleanup site, we knew we had to use our ingenuity once again to overcome some tricky situations!

The site is located along the south bank of the St. Joe River in North Idaho. A wood treating company had released contaminants into area soil, groundwater and sediment during the early 1900s, and the area needed to be cleaned up.

Our cranes were used during the process this summer, and work will continue through the fall. For the job, our crane needed to be on a floating barge in the water — no easy stunt!

However, our crane operators are trained to handle a variety of situations.

The crawler crane was walked from compact land onto the barge, with teams ensuring the barge did not move during transition.

We used a ramp to carry the weight of the crane during the transition. During the crossing, our team had to monitor the bridge-like ramp, barge and the land to make sure nothing moved or shifted, and that all items were stable.

What sounds like an incredible stunt is really just another day in the life of a crane operator!

Our team is ready and willing to take on any task, no matter how large or challenging it may be! Contact us today to get started!
